 National Drug Takeback Day is on Saturday April 27, 2024.  This a nationwide effort to help remove unneeded medications from our communities so that they do it end up being misused. Unneeded medications (no liquids or needles) can be dropped off 7 days a week 8:00 AM-5:00 PM at the drop-box in the Wilmington Police Department lobby located at 40 Beaver St Wilmington, VT.

     The Wilmington Police Department is pleased to announce that the Summer Sport Helmet Program is open.  This program is for Twin Valley Elementary School or home school students. Ordering information can be found on the Wilmington Facebook site, from TVES or by contacting WPD. Order forms are due back to TVES or WPD on or before May 1st. This program since its inception has provided over 400 summer sport helmets for kids in our community.  Funding for this program is provided by the Freemasons of Social Lodge #38 in Wilmington.

     On April 12, 2024 at approximately 11:37 PM, a Wilmington police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle along Haskell Hill Road for failing to maintain its lane of travel and for defective equipment-rear license plate light out. The vehicle initially yielded to the following police cruiser displaying blue lights. As the officer approached the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated rapidly and fled the traffic stop. The vehicle fled the area and the officer followed the vehicle locating it crashed on the side of the road a short distance away. During contact with the operator the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator. The operator was subsequently arrested for Eluding a Police Officer, DUI #3, Negligent Operation, and Criminal DLS and transported to the Wilmington Police Department for processing. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured from the crash and was released from the scene.  

     The Defendant, Shane M. Manning, Age: 35 of Starksboro, VT was processed and issued a criminal citation to appear at the Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on April 15, 2024 at 12:30 PM to answer to the charges.  The Defendant was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was held for lack of $5,000 bail.

On April 25, 2024 at approximately 6:45 PM, Wilmington Police responded to a report of possible attempted child abduction that had occurred in the parking lot of Twin Valley Elementary School. During the investigation it was found that the initial reports which included a description of a possible suspect vehicle could not be substantiated.  Information from video surveillance of the area where the incident is alleged to have occurred does not indicate that a child abduction attempt had occurred.

Wilmington Police Department continues to investigate and review evidence related to this incident.

There is no information at this time that indicates there is an increase in risk to the public.  Wilmington Police Department would remind those with children to; avoid posting identifying information or photos of your kids online, set boundaries about the places your kids go, supervise them in places like malls, movie theaters, parks, public bathrooms, parking lots, or while fundraising door to door and never leave kids alone in a car or stroller, even for a minute.

On April 28, 2024 at approximately 12:30 AM Wilmington Police responded to a possible domestic assault at a residence on West Main St in Wilmington.  During the investigation it was alleged that Aiden Bimmler Age: 22 of Readsboro, VT had physically assaulted a female subject.  As a result of the investigation Wilmington Police arrested Bimmler and he was transported to Wilmington Police Department for processing.  Bimmler was issued conditions of release and a citation to appear in Windham District Court on April 29, 2024 to answer the charge of domestic assault.
