SUMMARY: First Degree Domestic Assault x2, Resisting Arrest, Assault on Law Enforcement

On December 10, 2023 at approximately 5:00 PM, an individual came into the Wilmington Police Department to report an assault that had occurred at a residence in Wilmington, VT. During the investigation it was found that the individual had been assaulted by her boyfriend and by his mother while at a residence in Wilmington. It was also alleged that the victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend who choked her while they were at a park in Brattleboro.
Wilmington Police officers went to the Wilmington residence in order to locate the suspect, Andrew Reynolds, age 32 of, Wilmington VT. When at the residence officers attempted to arrest Reynolds and he became combative with officers, refusing to comply with their commands and actively resisting arrest. While Reynolds was actively fighting with officers, his mother, Michelle Amsden, age 54 of Wilmington VT brought out a vicious dog from the residence and Reynolds ordered the dog to get the officers while he was still actively resisting arrest. The dog attempted to bite the officers while they were attempting to control Reynolds. While fighting against the officers, Reynolds and an officer were knocked over a railing on the porch and landed on the ground. During the incident Amsden struck one of the officers with a metal object while the officer was attempting to take Reynolds into custody.
Both officers received minor injuries and continued attempts to take Reynolds into custody. A Wilmington officer deployed their department issued taser on Reynolds who was then taken into custody. Reynolds was placed under arrest, transported back to the Wilmington Police Department and evaluated by Deerfield Valley Rescue. During the incident Reynolds resisted arrest and assaulted two officers resulting in minor injuries. Reynolds was charged with Assault on a Police Officer x2, Impeding a Police Officer, Aggravated Domestic Assault x2, and Resisting Arrest. He was ordered to be held without bail and transported to Southern State Correctional Facility. He was arraigned on the charged in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on December 11, 2023 at 12:30 PM and the court ordered him to be held in custody.
Amsden was arrested on December 12, 2023 and charged with Impeding an Officer, Assault on a Police Officer x2, Simple Assault, and Animal Cruelty. Amsden was ordered to be released on conditions of release and was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Divison on December 13m 2023 at 12:30 PM.
