On Friday November 17, 2023 at approximately 8:59 P.M., Wilmington police were dispatched to a residential home in Wilmington, VT for a report of a family fight. After arriving on scene, the responding Wilmington Police Officers found that an assault had occurred between a boyfriend and girlfriend. During the investigation the suspect had fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area and found the suspect, Robb Young Age: 34 of St Louis, MO and arrested him for domestic assault. He was processed at the Wilmington Police Department where the court ordered him released on conditions, $1,000 bail and that he be issued a citation to appear at Windham Criminal Court on 11/20/23 to answer to the charge.

On November 11, 2023 at approximately 2:30 AM, a Wilmington police officer was notified by Vermont State Police of an individual seeking treatment at Grace Cottage Hospital for injuries from an assault that occurred in the town of Wilmington. During the investigation it was found that on November 10, 2023 at approximately 11:30 PM, the victim was assaulted by a male subject near Woods Road in Wilmington.  


The suspect was identified as, Ayden Bills, Jr. Age: 22 of Wardsboro, VT.  Bills met with the investigating officer at the Wilmington Police Department and was arrested for simple assault. He was released on conditions from the Court and cited to appear in Windham Criminal Court on November 17, 2023 at 12:30 PM to answer the charge.

On November 9, 2023 at approximately 11:09 AM, a Wilmington police officer responded to a local business for a report of an individual trespassing in violation of a no trespass order. During the investigation Carey Florence Age:45 of Whitingham, VT  was identified as the suspect and she was located at another nearby business. Florence was issued a citation to appear at the Windham District Court on 12/19/23 at 08:30 AM to answer the charge of Unlawful Trespass. 

During the investigation the Wilmington Police Officer identified the operator of the vehicle involved in the trespassing incident as John Thomas Galaske, Jr. Age: 46 of Whitingham, VT.  Galaske’s driver’s license was found to be criminally suspended and he had active conditions of release from Windham Court prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle.  Galaske was cited to appear in Windham Criminal Court on November 13, 2023 at 12:30 PM to answer the charges of driving with a criminal suspended license and violation of conditions of release.

On November 9, 2023 at approximately 11:35 AM, a Wilmington police officer responded to the parking lot of a local business on East Main Street to assist Dover Police in reference to a report that subjects from a trespassing incident that had occurred in Dover were now at the Wilmington business. During the investigation, the officer identified the Defendant, whom he knew from previous law enforcement interactions, as being the operator of a vehicle involved in the trespassing incident. The Defendant’s driver’s license was found to be criminally suspended and he was in violations of conditions of release from Windham Court.

The Defendant, John Thomas Galaske, Jr. Age: 46 of Whitingham, VT, was cited to appear in Windham Criminal Court on November 9, 2023 at 12:30 PM to answer the charges.

WILMINGTON WINTER PARKING BAN

 WILMINGTON WINTER PARKING BAN


Reminder: Winter Parking Ban Starts November 15th and goes until April 15th.

During this time there is no parking on the streets from 3AM till 6AM. Vehicles left in on-street parking spaces during these hours maybe ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.
Wilmington Police Department would like businesses to remind their guests of the winter parking restrictions.

Reminder: There is no parking in the Wilmington Town municipal lots for longer than 24 hrs. Vehicles left in the municipal lots longer than 24 hrs maybe ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.
No parking in the right of way of any town or state roadway.

These parking restrictions are in place to help facilitate snow removal operations.

On October 28, 2023 at approximately 4:00 AM the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a single vehicle roll over collision on Shearer Hill Rd in Wilmington, VT. Upon arrival Wilmington Police found a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer off the roadway, rolled onto its driver's side and crashed into a tree on Shearer Hill Rd in Wilmington. The vehicle was found to have no occupants and was estimated to have been crashed several hours earlier. The vehicle was total loss due to the collision. During the subsequent investigation it was found the vehicle was operated by John Galaske Jr., age 46, of Whitingham VT. Galaske was found to have a criminally suspended license and conditions of release prohibiting him from driving a motor vehicle. He was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on November 27, 2023.

On November 2, 2023 at approximately 11:50 PM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on VT Route 100 and Boyd Hill Road. During the stop, the operator detected signs of impairment and screened the operator who was subsequently arrested for DUI. The Defendant, Edward. Thomas Bergeron, age 21, of Whitingham VT, was cited to appear in Windham Criminal Court on November 21, 2023 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charges.

The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a report of two stolen snowmobiles that occurred within the past month from a parking lot along East Dover Rd in Wilmington. 

A 2007 Ski-doo Blizzard, white/black/yellow in color, with a blue X on the yellow windshield with VT registration SCK8 (photo below is likeness only), and a 2006 Ski-doo MXZ1000, black/yellow in color with a black X and ski-doo on the yellow windshield with VT registration TRC5 (actual photo below).

Arrest: Burglary, Grand Larceny, Embezzlement & More

On October 30, 2023, the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a burglary at a Wilmington business. During the investigation Wilmington Police learned that in the early morning hours of October 30, 2023 suspects had entered the business and stolen a safe. Police found that there was no forced entry and it was suspected that an employee had used their key to Gian entry after hours to steal the safe. Wilmington Police located evidence at a local residence from the burglary and with assistance from community members additional evidence that had been partially destroyed in attempts to dispose of it was also recovered. Wilmington Police attempted to locate several suspects who were known to travel between several area towns.


On November 8, 2023 Wilmington Police received a crime tip that one of the suspect's vehicles was located at a residence in Whitingham. One of the suspects had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear on a leaving the scene of an accident charge. At approximately 9:50 AM two Wilmington Police Officers attempted to make contact with the suspects at the residence in Whitingham. One suspect, identified as Nicholas Jones, age 40, of Wilmington VT, exited the residence and spoke with one of the police officers. As one of the officers approached the residence to speak with the other suspects, a gun was fired from inside the residence near the side of the residence where the officer was approaching the front door. An individual exited the residence who was detained and later released without charges. There was no contact from anyone inside the residence and police learned that one suspect was inside the residence and armed with a rifle.

Vermont State Police Tactical Services Unit was contacted to make entry into the residence. After the residence was entered one suspect was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.


Two vehicles were seized from the scene, one vehicle was later searched and found to contain illicit drugs and items that had been in the stolen safe. 


Jones was arrested and charges with the following offenses: Burglary, Grand Larceny, Embezzlement, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of Regulated Drugs (x4). He was ordered released on conditions of released and he was cited to appear in Windham District Court on 11/9/23 at 12:30 PM.


Vermont State Police, Dover Police Department, Deerfield Valley Rescue, and Whitingham Rescue assisted with the incident.

On October 29, 2023 at approximately 6:19 PM, a Wilmington Police Officer responded to the intersection of Haystack Road and VT Route 9 for a report of a vehicle off the road with an unresponsive driver. The officer arrived on scene and made contact with the operator. During the investigation, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator who was subsequently arrested for DUI. The defendant, Rachel L. Jones, age 32, of Wadsworth OH was ordered held on $1,000 bail and flash cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on October 30, 2012 at 12:30 PM to answer to the charge. The defendant was unable to post bail and was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where she was held pending the hearing.

On October 27, 2023 at approximately 11:42 AM the Wilmington Police Department was on patrol on VT Route 100 North in Wilmington VT. The officer observed an operator of a motor vehicle that the knew from previous police contacts that had a criminally suspended driver's  license. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on the vehicle and the operator, Robert Schauer, age 58, of Wilmington VT was arrested and issued a criminal citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on 11/21/23 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charge.

On October 27, 2023 at approximately 2:2 AM a Wilmington Police Officer responded to a local business along East Main Street, VT Route 9, in Wilmington for a report of a burglary alarm. The officer arrived on scene where it was discovered that an entrance door had been forced open and a male suspect had entered the business and stole several items. During the investigation Wilmington Police developed leads that helped identify a suspect. On October 28, 2023 Wilmington Police and Brattleboro Police located the suspect in his vehicle in a parking lot along Putney Road in Brattleboro. Wilmington Police located evidence of the burglary in the suspect's vehicle and evidence of criminal activity in Brattleboro which was turned over to Brattleboro Police Department. The Defendant, Bradley A. Quinlan, age 54, of Brattleboro VT, was arrested and transported to Wilmington Police Department for processing. The defendant was ordered held on $1,000 bail and flash cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on October 30, 2023 at 12:30 PM to answer to the charges. The defendant was unable to post bail and was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was held pending the hearing.

On October 17, 2023 at approximately 10:28 AM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on VT Route 100 South in Wilmington, VT for speeding. During the stop, it was found that the operator had two active arrest warrants out of Franklin County, VT. One warrant was issued after the defendant failed to appear on January 12, 2004 for a domestic assault with $1,000 bail and the second warrant was for two counts of aggravated domestic assault 2nd degree and for violating conditions of release with a hold without bail order from the court. The Defendant, Todd P. LaClair, age 46, of Monticello GA was arrested and transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was held without bail pending his court appearance.

On October 22, 2023 at approximately 1:17 AM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on VT Route 9 East in the town of Wilmington for speeding. During the stop, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator who was subsequently arrested for DUI.

The Defendant, Trista L. Bengtson, age 39, of Dummerston VT, was cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on November 7, 2023 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charge.
