            On January 10, 2025 at approximately 11:57 PM, Wilmington Police officers responded to a local residence on VT Route 9 West for a report of 911 call involving a possible family fight. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with several persons on scene. During the investigation police found that the Defendant was involved in an altercation that turned physical and that she had assaulted her domestic partner causing injuries.

            The Defendant, Tiffany Thurston, Age: 41 of West Springfield, MA, posted bail and was issued a flash citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on January 13, 2025 at 12:30 AM to answer the charge.

            On January 1, 2025 at approximately 12:43 AM, Wilmington Police officers responded to a local business on West Main Street, VT Route 9 for a report of an intoxicated driver with his vehicle idling in the roadway. Officers arrived and made contact with the operator and during that time detected signs of impairment. The operator was subsequently arrested for DUI.

The operator, Matthew A. Horn, Age: 40 of West Dover VT, was issued a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on January 21, 2025 at 8:30 AM to answer the charge.

            On December 14, 2024 at approximately 10:19 PM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on North Main Street, VT Route 9 on a vehicle for speeding.  During the stop, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator. The operator was subsequently arrested for DUI and Negligent Operation.

            The operator, Ian P. Flanagan, Age: 22 of Stratton VT, was issued a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on December 31, 2025 at 8:30 AM to answer the charges.

            On December 7, 2024 at approximately 10:52 PM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on Coldbrook Road on a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane of travel and obstruction of its rear registration plate.  During the stop, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator. The operator was subsequently arrested for DUI and Negligent Operation.

The Defendant, Michael T. Forbes, Age: 57 of Manhasset NY, was issued a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on January 7, 2025 at 8:30 AM to answer the charges.

            On January 12, 2025 at approximately 2:13 AM, Wilmington Police officers responded to a local residence on Higley Hill Road in the town of Wilmington for a report of a burglary with an assault in progress. While responding Officers received an update that the suspect had fled from the scene in a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Rt 100 N and found that it was blocking another vehicle from traveling, on Route 100 North in Wilmington.  Wilmington Police detained the suspect and conducted an investigation during which it was determined that the suspect had entered the residence without permission and assaulted a person sleeping in the residence.  During contact with the suspect officer’s detected signs of impairment and the suspect was screened for driving under the influence. Deerfield Valley Rescue assisted at the scene.

            The Defendant, Tarik G.W. Blowers, Age: 31 of Readsboro VT, was arrested and transported to the Wilmington Police Department for processing. The Defendant was ordered held on $5000 bail and was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was lodged. The defendant appeared in Windham Criminal Court on January 13, 2024 at 12:30 PM to answer the charges of Burglary, Aggravated Assault, DUI, and Negligent Operation.

During investigation, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator. The operator was subsequently arrested for DUI #2 and Negligent Operation and was transported to the Wilmington Police Department for processing. The defendant, John Edward Carrington, age 48, of Readsboro VT, was processed and released on a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on October 1, 2024 at 8:30 AM to answer the charges.

On September 28 2024 at approximately 1:03 AM, a Wilmington Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on South Main Street for operating without headlights on. During the stop, the officer detected signs of impairment and screened the operator. Further investigation found the operator's driver's license was criminally suspended. The operator was subsequently arrested for DUI #2, CriminalDLS, and Negligent Operation and was transported to the Wilmington Police Department for processing. The defendant, Kristin Marie Odell, age 42, of Wilmington VT was processed and released on a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on October 29, 2024 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charges.

On September 23, 2024 at approximately 12:30 PM, the Wilmington Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person who appeared to be walking around the parking lot of a local business looking into vehicles. During the investigation police found that two individuals had been going into several local stores stealing and attempting to steal merchandise. Police were able to recover the stolen items and Michael G Wallner, age 35, of Bennington VT was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine. Wallner was issued a citation to appear in Windham District Court on October 29, 2024 at 8:30 AM to answer for the charges of Retail Theft and Possession of Cocaine (Crack).

On September 19, 2024 at approximately 8:55 AM the Wilmington Police Department arrested Grant Bercik Age: 36 of Dover, VT on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear for charges of aggravated disorderly conduct.  Bercik posted bail on the warrant and was released on a citation to appear in Windham District Court.

On September 11, 2024 at approximately 6:00 PM the Wilmington Police Department responded to a Wilmington residence for a report of a deceased individual.  Upon arrival the Wilmington Police found a deceased 83 year old male at the residence. The Wilmington Police Department and the Vermont Office of the Chief Medical Examiner investigated the death. The investigation determined that the subject had died from natural causes.

            On September 4, 2024 at approximately 10:00 AM the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a man beating a female in vehicle which was in a parking lot of a Wilmington business. Upon arrival Wilmington Police made contact with the victim and through investigation learned that they had been assaulted and restrained.  As a result of the investigation Nicholas Neville Age: 23 of Centerville, MA was arrested and transported to Wilmington Police Department for processing. Neville was processed and ordered released on conditions and a citation.  Neville was charged with two counts of Domestic Assault and one count of unlawful restraint.

            On September 9, 2024 the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a Wilmington resident receiving unwanted communication from an individual from New York. During the investigation Wilmington Police learned that an Andrew M. Jabot Age: 32 of Queensbury, NY had been attempting to communicate with the victim which was in violation of an active abuse prevention order.  An arrest warrant was requested and issued for Jabot for violating an abuse prevention order.

            On September 11, 2024 at approximately 2:30 PM the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a vehicle operating erratically traveling south on Rt 100 North through Dover and that the vehicle’s trunk was open.  A Wilmington Police Officer observed the vehicle traveling through Wilmington Center and made contact with the operator on South Main St.  During contact the officer observed signs of impairment and the operator was screened for impairment.  The operator Ariana Ocana Age: 31 of Newfane, VT was arrested and processed at the Wilmington Police Department. Ocana was released on a citation to appear in Windham District Court on October 1, 2024 to answer for the charge of DUI.

            On September 2, 2024 at approximately 1:10 PM, the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a boat collision on Harriman Reservoir in the area of Ward’s Cove.  Wilmington Police Department responded to scene of the collision where they found that the boat involved had sunk in over 70’ of water.  The operator who was the only occupant of the boat had been picked up by another boat and transported to the shore. Wilmington Police located witnesses to the boat collision at the scene that described the boat as operating erratically and in a careless manner prior to it being driven into the rocks along the shoreline.  During the investigation evidence was found where the boat involved had collided with rocks along the west shore line of the reservoir causing the hull damage which resulted in the boat sinking. The operator, Jonathon Strain Age: 62 of New York, NY was located on the shoreline and during contact with police indicators of impairment were observed.  Strain was screened for operating a boat while impaired and was evaluated by a DRE.  During processing Strain refused to provide a sample of his blood as evidence and a search warrant was requested and issued to take samples of his blood.  Strain was processed at Wilmington Police Department and released on a citation to appear in Windham District Court on October 29, 2024 to answer for the charges of Boating Under the Influence-drugs and Operation of Vessels-Careless and Negligent Operation. The boat involved was a 2009 MB Sports Wakeboarding boat which was recovered by a salvage company utilizing divers and airbags on September 11, 2024 from Harriman Reservoir.

            Wilmington Police was assisted by Fish and Wildlife, Wilmington Fire Department and Deerfield Valley Rescue.

            On September 24, 2024 at approximately 2:30 PM, the Wilmington Police responded to a report of a burglary at a residence in Wilmington, VT. During the investigation police found that numerous items had been stolen from the residence including three firearms.  A neighbor reported seeing a dark colored Chevrolet Pickup at the residence with a possible out of state license plate of VVADER.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 802-464-8593.

The Wilmington Police Department is pleased to announce that Officer Joe Carcich has been selected as the new School Resource Officer (SRO) for the next school year. The SRO is a new position supported by voters in both Wilmington and Whitingham to work with the Twin Valley Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. The SRO will assist in school staff with safety and security at the schools. Through mentoring and guidance the SRO will foster the development of positive relationships with students and develop strategies to resolve problems/conflicts that affect youth and help them reach their fullest potential.

Officer Carcich was selected for the SRO based upon his training, experience, and communication abilities. He was interviewed and vetted for this position by a panel consisting of parents, police officers, teachers, school administrative staff, and students.

Officer Carcich will be attending additional specialized training prior to the start of the school year.

Since the start of the summer weather, the Wilmington Police Department has seen a substantial increase in calls for assistance for person(s) experiencing a mental health crisis or in a pre-crisis stage. To illustrate this increase, over a four day period of time (6/2-6/6) WPD responded to at least nineteen incidents related to mental health issues. These incidents ranged from destruction of private property, indecent exposure, interfering with traffic, trespassing, suicidal ideations, harassment, citizen disputes, and actual attempted suicides. 

Currently WPD is responding to emergencies as we always have but non-emergency calls can expect a delayed response during these high call volumes.

On April 30, 2024 at approximately 10:51 AM, officers from the Wilmington Police Department received a report of a littering issue on VT RT 9 E near the Mobil gas station. The reporting party, Grant Bercik, age 36, of Wilmington VT, was found to have allegedly filed a false statement with police to incriminate another person and to have violated his court ordered conditions of release. Bercik was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court - Windham Criminal Division on June 25 2024 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charges.
